Our Patron: Saint Augustine

Augustine of Hippo was a restless soul who spent his early years searching for meaning in philosophy, pleasure, and worldly ambition — and who found, in the end, that his heart could only rest in God. Born in North Africa in 354 to a saintly mother, Monica, and a pagan father, Patricius, he carried within him the tensions of a divided world and a divided heart. After years of wandering, he was baptized by St. Ambrose of Milan in 387, and the brilliant, passionate man who had once prayed “Lord, make me chaste — but not yet” became one of the Church’s greatest theologians and bishops. As Bishop of Hippo, he shepherded his people through poverty, conflict, and uncertainty, writing ceaselessly to guide, comfort, and challenge the faithful across the known world. Augustine reminds us that no one is too far gone, no journey too crooked, and no heart too restless to find its way home to God.
